Choral Evensong

Join us this Sunday, December 8th, at 5:30 pm for the Parish Choir’s monthly offering of Choral Evensong. This month we have the joy of welcoming Samford University Student, Elijah Samlowski, who will offer a prelude of organ music beginning at 5:15 pm.

Evensong is a quintessentially Anglican service dating back hundreds of years, consisting of lessons, sung prayers, the Songs of Mary and Simeon, an anthem, and a hymn. It is a wonderful way to end your day, in prayer and music.

The music for this month’s Evensong will include Stanford’s Evening Service in Bb, Berger’s The eyes of all wait upon thee, Manz's E’en so Lord Jesus, quickly come, and the great Evening Hymn The day thou gavest Lord, has ended. Elijah Samlowski’s prelude will consist of the following works: Nun Komm, Der Heiden Heiland, and the ‘Vivace’ from Trio Sonata No. 2 in C minor, both by Bach, and Introduction and Passacaglia in D minor by Max Reger.

Elijah Samlowski, a Texas native, has been involved in the arts since childhood. Studying piano, organ, and voice. He now lives in Birmingham, Alabama where he is a senior organ performance major at Samford University studying under Dr. Fred Teardo. He currently serves as the assistant organist at Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. Before this, he was the Intern to the Vicar of Sacred Liturgy in the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham. We are excited to welcome Elijah to Saint Andrew’s.
